Finding Your Why For Fitness

What is your why?

If you’ve ever started a fitness routine and found yourself losing motivation, it’s probably because you lost sight of your “why.” Your why is the emotional reason for doing something, and it keeps you going when everything else seems to be against you. Finding your why is so important because it helps keep your end goal in mind while working out, which makes the journey more enjoyable (and less frustrating) than it would be otherwise.

Track your progress.

The next step is to track your progress. If you’re not sure where to start, start small. A good place to start is with a journal or an app. Tracking your workouts and meals will help keep you motivated by seeing how far along the path toward reaching your goal(s) that you’ve come.

It will also help you see what works and what doesn’t. If you’re struggling with motivation or having trouble tracking your progress, try using an app like My Fitness Pal. This app allows you to track how many calories you’re eating each day as well as different exercises you do.

Set small goals you can reach.

You might be thinking, “I want to lose 10 pounds.” That’s a big goal for most people. A better way to approach it is to break that down into smaller goals and make them habit based:

  • I’m going to eat breakfast tomorrow morning. If I do this consistently, I’ll be one step closer toward reaching my goal!
  • I’m going to exercise three days this week (and no more). If I can do this consistently over time, then eventually my body will start changing shape in ways that make me feel good about myself–and then maybe even motivate me further!

Remember why you are exercising.

The first step to finding your why is to remember why you want to work out in the first place. The reason may be as simple as wanting to feel good or look better, or it could be something bigger like having more energy and being able to do more with your time.

While this can be a difficult question for some people, it’s important that you answer it truthfully and honestly. In order for fitness activities like running or weightlifting to have any sort of positive impact on our lives, we need them for reasons other than just because they’re what everyone else does or because they’ll help us lose weight (which is often an unrealistic expectation).

So take some time now and ask yourself: what will happen if I don’t start exercising regularly? Is there anything negative about not being fit right now? If so–and I’m sure there are plenty–then think about how great life will be when those things improve!

Make it fun!

  • Find a workout buddy. Having someone to talk to during your workout will make it more enjoyable and give you motivation to keep going.
  • Try a new class or sport. If you’ve been stuck in the same routine for too long, try something different! There are so many options out there that it should be easy to find something fun and exciting that will help keep things fresh while still providing an effective workout routine–and maybe even teach you something new!
  • Reward yourself when reaching goals. Whether it’s losing weight or increasing endurance levels, rewarding yourself with new equipment after reaching each goal can keep things fun while still encouraging progress toward overall fitness goals.
  • It’s important to take care of the mind and body. Finding a balance between these two aspects of life can be difficult, but with the right motivation, it’s not impossible! Try out some of these tips to help you stay fit while still enjoying yourself.

Fitness is a journey, not a destination

At the end of the day, fitness is a journey, not a destination. The results you get from your hard work won’t be immediate and there will always be someone who has more or less than you. If you’re constantly comparing yourself to others, it can be easy to lose sight of what really matters: staying focused on your own progress, believing in yourself and striving for improvement every day.

If you’re having a hard day and feel like your efforts aren’t paying off, remember that it takes time to see results. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

What Is Your Reason Why?

I hope this article has helped you find your Why for fitness. If not, don’t worry! It can take time to figure out what makes us tick and what motivates us. In the meantime, remember that there are many ways to get started with exercise–even if it’s just walking around the block once a day or taking some time off from work for yoga class every week. The most important thing is just getting up and doing something positive for yourself!
