Feeling Confident In The Kitchen

Easy Cooking Tips

The Reality of Cooking, it’s a lot like a sport. Cooking takes practice and patience but if you do it right, it is so rewarding! As a chef I have learned that cooking is more than just following a recipe. You need to know what you’re doing before you start cooking. If not, then all your hard work could end up in the trash bin. To most, cooking is an art form learned through experience. It can also be learned through others who have already been there before us!

Cooking Tip #1

Adjust Your Spices

Adjusting your spices is a great way to make sure your dish tastes just right. In fact, it’s one of the most important things you can do when cooking! This may seem like a simple concept but there are many things that go into it. Understanding how much or little goes into something. Both of these can help take your dishes from good to great.

First off, make sure that your spices are fresh. Old spices tend to taste stale and have less flavor than fresh ones. If possible, buy them in small amounts so they don’t go bad before their expiration date arrives.

Cooking Tip #2

Have all your tools ready

Before you begin cooking, make sure that all your tools and ingredients are ready. This includes having all the prep work done and spices out on the countertop. It’s important to have your cooking tools within reach so that you can grab them quickly when needed.

The last thing anyone wants is to be halfway through making dinner when they realize they’re missing an ingredient or tool!

Cooking Tip #3

Use Fresh Ingredients

Fresh Ingredients will make all the difference. This includes fresh herbs, vegetables, and fruit. Even fresh spices if you can find them. All of these will add that extra punch of flavor that you’ve been missing in your dishes.

Try to use local produce when possible. Local items are generally less expensive than buying imported items and it tastes better too!

Cooking Tip #4

Allow Enough Time To Cook

Make sure that you have enough time to cook your whole meal. You don’t want to have to rush through your prep work or get stressed out about getting things done in time for dinner.

Remember, you should never rush through your prep work. Prep work is important because it will help you to avoid making mistakes, which can lead to wasted ingredients and imperfect meals. If you’re rushing, there’s a good chance that all of your ingredients won’t be prepped properly or evenly distributed among the dishes. You may also end up with something burnt or undercooked if you don’t take enough time on each step of the process!

Don’t get stressed out about getting things done in time for dinner. The point of cooking at home is having fun and enjoying yourself while preparing food for friends or family members! Relax and enjoy yourself while cooking, it’s supposed to be enjoyable!

Cooking Tip #5

Basic Knife Skills

Learn a few basic knife skills before attempting anything more advanced is always a safe idea. It’s important to know how to hold and use a knife properly. A sharp knife is much safer than a dull one. If you’re struggling with keeping your food from falling apart or getting cut while chopping, check out these tips:

A Sharp Knife is Key!! Make sure your knife is well maintained! If you are using a dull knife, it will put extra pressure on the food and make it harder to cut. Use a Sharpening Steel or Knife Sharpener to keep your knife properly maintained between uses.

Position your fingers so that they are curled around the blade, but not touching its edge. Have them on either side of where they meet with the handle. This should feel comfortable to you. If anything were to slip off course, it would fall away from your body rather than towards yourself!

Cut with the blade parallel against whatever surface you’re working on. This ensures safety while also helping prevent accidents like having ingredients slip through cracks between two different pieces since nothing touches anything else during cutting motions; meaning less mess overall too.

The best way to hold a knife correctly is with your thumb and index finger. Keep your other fingers out of the way, and position the knife so that it is parallel with your forearm. Hold the knife with the tip facing away from you.

Cooking Tip #6

Chopping Vegetables into Perfect Cubes

Make sure you have the right tools. You’ll need a sharp knife and a cutting board.

Now that you got everything set up, start by washing your vegetables under running water so that they’re clean and ready for their new home in the oven or on top of your salad. Next comes the fun part: chopping!

There are several ways to do this depending on what kind of vegetable needs chopping. If it’s soft like tomatoes or cucumbers then use one motion; but if it’s harder like carrots then use two motions. First, cut off both ends then slice lengthwise before dicing horizontally into cubes.

Cooking Tip #7

Have a Well Organized Kitchen

Having an organized kitchen will help you keep track of everything that you need at any given time. This is because everything is in its place and easily accessible.

When preparing food, having an organized workstation can make things go so much smoother! You don’t want to find yourself searching through drawers and cabinets looking for utensils while your dish burns on the stovetop or oven!

In fact, having a well-organized kitchen can help with cooking in general. From getting started with chopping up ingredients all the way through cleaning up after dinner has been served. Keep things where they belong.

Cooking Tip #8

Season & Taste As You Go

Don’t forget to taste as you go and season accordingly. Seasoning is the most important part of cooking. It should be done at every step of the cooking process and not just at the end, when you’re trying to figure out if something needs more salt or pepper. When seasoning as you go along, it’s important to taste your food so that you can get an idea of where things need to be adjusted.
